La Poste – Tablet point of sale

2016 · 6 months · Tablet app

The request

La Poste, the French postal group, offered shopkeepers Genius, a tablet point-of-sale app: taking payments, managing items and stock, tracking activity. A six-month engagement on the design of the app.

The solution

I designed checkout to be fast on a counter: large tiles by category, the receipt always in view, total and pay button at the bottom. I also reworked the statistics, organised in blocks and filterable by category, supplier and brand, with filters that only offer combinations that exist.

Checkout first

On a tablet sitting on the counter, checkout has to be fast. Items are arranged by category in large tiles, the current receipt stays visible on the right, the total and the pay button sit at the bottom. The till screen sums up the total, the payments already entered, the amount left to pay and the change due, next to a preview of the receipt.

New sale: the menu, item categories and the current receipt.
The till: total, payments entered, amount left to pay and receipt, before confirming the sale.

Statistics

The statistics summary is organised in blocks (stock, period, revenue, sales), with filters by category, supplier and brand to refine the reading.

The statistics summary: stock, period, revenue and sales.

Filters that depend on each other

Choosing categories narrows the suppliers on offer: those with no item in the selection are greyed out. Shopkeepers see straight away which combinations make sense, instead of landing on an empty statistic.

Suppliers with no item in the selection are greyed out: only possible combinations stay active.

The filter panel open: categories, suppliers and brands.
Categories selected: suppliers with no matching item turn grey.
